Silicone roof systems
GE Enduris: Silicone
Enduris is a high-solids silicone roof coating engineered for flat roofs that hold water. It cures into a weatherproof membrane that shrugs off UV and standing water year after year.
Why Choose Silicone
When ponding water and relentless sun are the problem, silicone is the answer.
Where Silicone Falls Short
No coating is right for every roof. Here is the honest trade-off list so you can decide with full information.
Poor foot traffic tolerance
Silicone stays relatively soft and is prone to punctures and tears from regular foot traffic, dropped tools, and service technicians working on rooftop equipment. Walk pads are strongly recommended.
Vulnerable to vegetation and debris
Weeds, roots, and windblown debris can work through the membrane over time, especially around drains, curbs, and gravel-embedded areas.
Cannot be shoveled
Snow removal with a shovel or scraper will gouge the coating. Snow management has to be handled with plastic tools and care, or left alone entirely.
Attracts and holds dirt
Silicone is naturally tacky, so airborne dirt sticks to it. Reflectivity drops as the surface soils, which reduces some of the cool roof energy benefit unless the roof is washed periodically.
Slippery when wet
The surface gets very slick with rain, dew, or frost. That is a real safety consideration for roofs with frequent maintenance access.
Only silicone can recoat silicone
Nothing else adheres reliably to cured silicone. Once you go silicone, future recoats have to be silicone as well.
If your roof sees regular traffic or heavy snow management, we will usually steer you toward Castagra Ecodur or FAR FiberMaxx instead. Silicone earns its place on low-traffic roofs where ponding water is the main enemy.
Built for Ponding Water
Most coatings soften and break down where water sits. Silicone does not. Enduris keeps its integrity in permanent ponding conditions, which makes it our first choice for low-slope roofs with poor drainage.
Best Suited For
- Flat and low-slope commercial roofs
- Roofs with chronic ponding water
- Aged single-ply and modified bitumen membranes
- Buildings targeting cooling-cost reduction
